Zürich's IMAX auditorium is at blue Cinema Abaton on Heinrichstrasse, by Hardbrücke in Zürich-West. Every IMAX screening listed on English Cinema Zürich is in English, so you can pick a session from the cinema's page without decoding any language codes.
Is the IMAX screening in English?
Not automatically. A big release can play in IMAX in more than one language version over its run, and the format label tells you nothing about the soundtrack. Swiss listings mark the language separately:
- E/d/f means English audio with German and French subtitles. You may also see it written Edf or E/d,f.
- OV means the original version. That is English audio only when the film was made in English.
- D or Deutsch on its own means a German-dubbed version.
On English Cinema Zürich, every listed screening has English audio. Look for the IMAX label next to the time on a film's page or on Abaton's page: that combination is an English IMAX session.
Where is IMAX in Zürich?
Abaton is the venue in the city with an IMAX auditorium. It is a large multiplex in Zürich-West, a short walk from Hardbrücke station. Abaton also has a 4DX auditorium, so check the label on each session if you have a preference.
The other IMAX screens in the region are outside the city of Zürich, and this site does not list them.
What about 4DX?
4DX adds moving seats and effects such as wind and water to the screening. In Zürich you will find it at blue Cinema Abaton and at Arena Cinemas Sihlcity, inside the Sihlcity complex in the south of the city. As with IMAX, an English 4DX session carries the 4DX label on our listings.
Which films are in IMAX right now?
IMAX programmes change with each new release, so the reliable answer is the current listing. Open what is showing in English, pick a film, and look for IMAX next to the screening times. Blockbusters and big event releases are the films most likely to get an IMAX run.
Keeping it simple
You do not need to cross-check formats and language versions on cinema websites. The films page shows what is on in English, with the format next to each time.
