Houdini Kino/Bar is a five-screen cinema with a bar at the corner of Badenerstrasse and Kalkbreite, part of the Kalkbreite cooperative housing development. It is run by Neugass Kino AG, which also runs the Riffraff. The programme centres on new independent films and entertainment cinema, with lesser-known titles, children's films and some more popular releases that open at the same time as in the city centre. The bar spreads over two floors, with a gallery mezzanine above.
For public transport, Houdini lists the Kalkbreite stop directly in front of the building, served by trams 2 and 3 and bus 32, and Wiedikon station, served by the S2, S8 and S24, a few minutes' walk away. The five rooms have between 32 and 54 seats. Houdini lists Houdini 1 as wheelchair accessible, rooms 2 and 3 by lift, and rooms 4 and 5 by lift and platform lift; rooms 1, 4 and 5 are listed as optimised for people with hearing impairments. The venue page has the room details.
The operator's own programme is not limited to English-language films, and its screenings are marked with version codes such as Ov/df. An Ov label does not by itself mean English audio. Our listings here are English-audio screenings.
