Filmpodium is the City of Zurich's own programme cinema, run by the city's Office of Cultural Affairs and partnered with the Cinémathèque suisse. Its programme is built around thematic series and retrospectives of film classics, alongside premieres of independent films from around the world and special events with live music and guests. It occupies the former Studio 4 cinema, designed in 1948/49 by Roman Clemens and renovated in 2003; the auditorium has 263 seats, and the lobby has a bar and lounge.
The cinema is on Nüschelerstrasse, between Kaufleuten and Paradeplatz. The nearest tram stops are Sihlstrasse, Paradeplatz and Rennweg, and Zurich HB is about ten minutes' walk away. A wheelchair lift serves the auditorium and the toilets, and there are three wheelchair spaces, each with a companion seat; a radio listening system with induction loops is also available. On its own programme, Filmpodium generally shows foreign-language films in the original version, usually with German subtitles and sometimes with English or French ones. English subtitles do not mean English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
