This animated comedy-adventure follows the Minions as they take on Hollywood, unleash monsters and then band together to fix the chaos. It's a rambunctious, fantasy-tinged PG romp that's easy to enjoy without demanding much focus. A good pick for families wanting broad laughs and plenty of showings to choose from.

The pups land on a dinosaur island after a storm and race to save it when reckless mining triggers a volcano. It's a gentle animated adventure, rated PG, that's especially well suited to preschool and early-primary kids. Cal Brunker directs, and there are lots of showings this week if you have little ones in tow.

A shepherd's flock turns crime-solver in this live-action family mystery-comedy, with Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson among the cast and glowing reviews (95% critics). It's a clever, good-natured PG whodunit that works for older kids and adults alike. Screenings are very limited this week — only a couple of showings, so book ahead if it appeals.
