Together

If you're into love stories with a seriously weird twist, Together might just be your next favorite movie. Directed by Michael Shanks in his debut, this 2025 supernatural body horror flick stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a couple whose move to the countryside takes a bizarre and grotesque turn. What starts as a strained relationship quickly spirals into something far more disturbing after a mysterious encounter in a cave begins to physically and emotionally fuse them together—literally.
The film blends romance, horror, and a hefty dose of body horror in a way that’s both unsettling and oddly touching. Think of it as a love story wrapped in a horror movie, with a side of existential dread. The chemistry between Franco and Brie adds a layer of authenticity that makes the emotional beats hit harder, even as their characters’ bodies start to morph in increasingly grotesque ways.
Together isn’t for the faint of heart. If you’re squeamish about body horror or not into metaphor-heavy storytelling, this might not be your thing. But if you appreciate films that push boundaries and explore relationships in unconventional ways, there’s a lot to admire here. Critics have praised the film for its originality and emotional depth, even calling it one of the most memorable romances of the year—despite (or maybe because of) the flesh-fusing horror.
The film’s score, composed by Cornel Wilczek, mirrors the emotional and physical transformation of the characters, blending romantic themes with eerie undertones. Songs like “2 Become 1” by the Spice Girls and “Happy Together” by The Turtles add a darkly ironic touch to the story’s progression.
Together premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and quickly caught the attention of major distributors, with Neon picking it up for a wide release. It’s already made back its $17 million budget and then some, and has earned mostly positive reviews from critics, though general audiences have been a bit more divided.
In short, Together is a bold, bizarre, and surprisingly heartfelt film that’s perfect for fans of genre-bending cinema. Just don’t watch it right after dinner.
